What is Paleo Diet?

A Paleo Diet is a diet that is based upon the concept that the optimal diet is the one to which we are genetically adapted. It is based upon eating nutrient-dense whole foods such as meats, vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds while avoiding processed and refined foods. 

 

Why should you eat Paleo?

If you're suffering from weight issues, diabetes, heart disease, autoimmune disorders, hormone imbalance or digestive problems (bloating, constipation, diarrhea, acid reflux), a diet rich in micronutrients needed by our bodies to function is our best bet!

 

What do you eat in this diet?

This template is founded on the most nutrient-dense foods such as organ meat, seafood, vegetables, high quality meats, fruit, eggs, nuts, seeds, healthy fats, probiotic and fermented foods, herbs and spices. Simultaneously, avoiding foods that promote inflammation, imbalance hormones, or destroy the gut, including all grains, legumes, dairy, and all processed and refined foods. 

 

Paleo Principles 

1. Eat Real Foods. Processed foods are not consistent with a Paleo diet. 

2. Avoid toxins. This includes those that are found in processed foods and those that are found in some whole foods that humans are traditionally not meant to digest well and thrive on 

3. Use evolutionary principles. It is not practical to live like a caveman. 

4. Rely on evidence. 

5. Individualize. What works for one person, may not work for someone else. You may have to tweak or modify your diet to what suits you best. 

 

How can the Paleo diet improve health?

The Paleo diet can improve cardiovascular disease risk factors, glucose tolerance, weight management, autoimmune disease and reduce inflammation. 

Emphasis on the most nutrient-dense foods available and by removing inflammatory foods that can increase the risks of hormone imbalance, inflammation, and gut dysbiosis (bacteria in your gut are the wrong kinds, wrong diversity, wrong numbers, and/or in the wrong part of the gastrointestinal tract), the Paleo diet can improve an array of chronic health conditions. It’s also great for weight normalization, meaning that overweight people tend to lose weight but underweight people tend to gain weight.

The Paleo diet also promotes a healthy digestive system which establishes a healthy immune system because 80% of our immune system is in our gut!  

This diet also supports liver detoxification and hormone regulation by supporting gut health and by providing the essential nutrients that the liver needs to perform optimally.  By providing the body with the essential nutrients it needs to be healthy, every system in the human body is positively affected by this approach to food.
